Otherwise not only does my knee hurt but I will also get shin splints. I try to make sure I avoid a strong heel strike otherwise my knee just screams in agony. I've actually looked into the vibrams and am considering ordering a pair.

RB I might do a 5K in September, the distance is very easy for me at this point. I'm working on very gradually increasing my speed in an attempt to keep the knee happy. I'm not trying to be competitive, just trying to avoid embarassment. :)

HA i always kill my back when we stack square bales. I try to do the whole lift correctly from the leg things - yeah, whatever!! It ends with me just trying to keep lifting at all as I attempt to stack a couple hundred bales!Melissa-ParadigmFarmshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14274830693649851658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2113210295764288330.post-52435540353207907432011-08-03T13:43:28.945-05:002011-08-03T13:43:28.945-05:00You talk a lot about feet, shoes and soundness, an...You talk a lot about feet, shoes and soundness, and how leaving horses unshod often resolves long standing soundness issues... maybe you ought to try Virbam 5-finger "barefoot" running shoes. :)sirinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2113210295764288330.post-55705795589759316742011-08-03T11:16:59.010-05:002011-08-03T11:16:59.010-05:00I tried before to get into running but my shins wo...I tried before to get into running but my shins would always start hurting.

Funder made me remember why I make my hubby throw hay bales - I always get shin splints when I lift more than 20 bales in a row - you know, trying to lift properly from my legs - hah, whatever!hammerhorseshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07144749417680923288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2113210295764288330.post-10663473540622233942011-08-02T22:54:40.409-05:002011-08-02T22:54:40.409-05:00Nothing wrong with doing human LD's. ;)

I suppose if I ever try again I'll get some of those dorky Vibrams and try toe-first running.Funderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06358687366401205336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2113210295764288330.post-23097508041982973492011-08-02T21:29:07.656-05:002011-08-02T21:29:07.656-05:00Think of how much faster you'll be able to rou...Think of how much faster you'll be able to round up Darby if you can run instead of walk! ;)

I have a similar situation with my ankle but have learned that low intensity/impact, constant exercise is key. And form is certainly crucial. If I do too many long walks with flip flops I will pay for it!

Good luck with your goals. Nothing wrong with having big goals, just adjust the time frame. What about 5K this year (or next), a half the year after, and a full the year after that?RuckusButthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14760056031442317243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2113210295764288330.post-65546907648475256902011-08-02T20:13:23.196-05:002011-08-02T20:13:23.196-05:00Posture and balance, and establishing rhythm, are ...Posture and balance, and establishing rhythm, are so important, both for horses and riders (and runners).

(Cute pony!)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
