Living in Kentucky for awhile too, appreciated the race horse side of her but not my favorite forte' for a horse. Love the pics with the goat! I hope that knowing Buffy and all your residents are so happy, and so well cared for and are ushered from this life with such grace and respect (by you) makes up for some of the pain of losing them when its time for them to go.

Fell free to edit this part out of the comment; I tried to email it instead but couldn't readily locate an address. Buffy is lucky that you knew her so well and were able to help early, while you are not so lucky to have to endure this feel for you and Buffy's owner and it's nice to hear you were on the same page through it all. As always, I am most struck by how amazing it is that these horses get to have such a great retirement.RuckusButthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14760056031442317243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2113210295764288330.post-78845172302468679202010-05-10T18:35:38.000-05:002010-05-10T18:35:38.000-05:00My condolences to all involved. In all cases, both Melissa and I work very closely with the owner to determine the most reasonable and humane outcome for the horse(s) in question.

Unlike Melissa, I don't tend to second guess myself regarding treatment and care decisions very much. For me, the hardest part of what we do is making the initial phone contact with the owner to let them know something may be seriously amiss with their horse. This is doubly hard for me to do in "surprise" cases like this. I'm quite cognizant of the fact that our call is likely to impact our client in a negative way, and I struggle with how to share the news. Muffling a blow from a hammer with a piece of wood doesn't do much to lessen the impact, IMO.Jasonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09092424684260339977noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2113210295764288330.post-15613278391753136532010-05-10T08:42:54.768-05:002010-05-10T08:42:54.768-05:00I am so sorry that this past weekend was not a goo...I am so sorry that this past weekend was not a good one for your farm.
