Amazing Weather

Everyone at the farm has been enjoying the extended fall weather we have been having. Today was the "coldest" day we've had in awhile, and the high temperature only made it to 65F/18C. We've had an unbelievable number of days in a row that topped out in the 70s. Yesterday Jason and I were discussing mowing the grass along the driveway, in the barn yards and around the house. Even in the southern part of middle Tennessee we shouldn't be discussing mowing the lawn in the middle of December. Having a few scattered days in any winter month in the 70's isn't unusual in this part of the world. Having day after day after day of it at this time of year is unusual.

Since I hate cold weather (anything under 50F/10C qualifies as cold in my world) I'm really liking this streak of early fall/late summer temperatures in December. But the last few days a few bot flies and stable flies have been back and I'm not enthralled with that. We don't have swarms of flies or anything like that, more like the occasional tail swish every 15 minutes. However the fact that there are any flies at all in the middle of December is just wrong.

It looks like much of the country is experiencing the same unseasonably warm weather. Check in and let us know what the weather is doing in your part of the world.

After a terribly cold November, and six inches of snow two weeks ago, we've gotten rain (that washed the snow away) and then yesterday and today made it to 50* with mostly sunny skies! I even rode today!

Love your blog! We have 6 inches of snow on the ground in Logan, UT. Stay warm!

Ridiculously warm here in eastern Ontario (Ottawa area). While it is nice in some respects, it makes horse keeping difficult for a boarding amateur. I'm at the barn every day anyway, so i can change blankets as needed but it is still impossible to account for the swings in temps. Plus, although Armani barely grew a coat at all, he is sleek and shiny, he is still sweating more than he should during our rides because it is too warm. Mind you, he is also way too fat right now, so that doesn't help (I am trying to curb the obesity but my goodness it's hard!)

Thank you for your wonderful blog - I love keeping up with all your residents! It's been unseasonably warm in Ohio too! I'm not complaining; I hate the cold too!

Perfect still in flip flops, no heating bill, beach weather here. Sunny + 70's + no wind. Big savings on hay, and not even minding applying fly masks and spray several times daily. :D

We've had snow twice this year, but otherwise we've been nearly as warm as you. Today was a chilly 43 degrees and I was freezing! And feeling like a whimp. I contemplated using my remote car starter. The grass is still green here. I just pulled the last of my lettuce out of the garden last Friday.
