Good Quotes

I'm not very good with the written word, and am pretty much hopeless when it comes to condensing something insightful and brilliant into one or two sentences. Thus I always appreciate it when other people manage to do this. I was reading an article by the eventing coach Jimmy Wofford today and read yet another of his brilliant "Woffordisms" when it comes to horses:

"The worst of them sense our fears and take advantage of us. The best of them sense our dreams and take us there."

I think this quote is brilliant, simply because in my experience it is so true. I think there is something to be learned from every horse, but I also think some horses are able to touch certain people in very special ways. I know I have been lucky and blessed to own several gorgeous, talented horses in my life. I've loved and learned from them all but two of them definitely had the ability to sense my dreams and take me there. As I was thinking about this quote today it made me start thinking about other quotes that have made me laugh, or made me nod my head in agreement. I've listed a few that came to mind today. Please add your favorite horse quotes in the comments.

i think even the best of horses will still take advantage of us sometimes: ) but i like to think i accomplished my dreams on my horse, who put up with everything i threw at him for the last 23 years. i had all these horsey bucket list items and i did almost all of them (without getting arrested!).

tonight my goal was just to groom him without him walking away, since he doesn't really like a good grooming. i did it! and he enjoyed it at times. i think it has to do with just not using the curry and just swishing a stiff brush back and forth over the mud instead. i really treasure our time. i know every day is precious.

in fact when i come home from work now, after my 10 hour days, i am torn, who do i say hello to first, my nickering horse, or my loving man? agh! tonight they were both staring at me at the same moment (my man's office is right next to our paddock gate). i looked back and forth between them. i had an apple in my hand...

My favorite horsey quote is:

Horseback riding is like nuts and bolts - if the rider is nuts, the horse bolts!

it always makes me giggle yet is so true!
