Grief is so hard, and inescapable. I am glad you and your Mom are dealing as best you can, and the darkness is lifting.
On the other hand, and I know you have considered this as well, it feels to me all your Dad's animals just followed him to where ever he went. I guess that is childish, but that is what it feels like to me. Unfortunately they had to leave you to do that.
