The modifications we made to the shelters were made with their shade use in mind. We had the builder put a ridge vent along the roof of the sheds for ventilation and heat dissipation in the summer. There is also a vent along the back of the shed directly under the roof line. My concern with this was would it allow rain to blow in or make the sheds cold in the winter. Jason and our builder explained to me why this wouldn't happen, something about how the edge of the roof extends out past the back of the shed but quite frankly I can't really explain it so I won't try!

We are trying our best to make thoughtful decisions in regards to everything we do. There are things we love about our current location and things we don't love, so we are trying to incorporate our "best practices" and improve on the things we complain about! The other difference with this shed as compared to our "old" sheds is we had this shed built out of metal instead of wood. We're hoping for lower maintenance, as in we don't want to waste our time constantly repainting wood sheds trying to keep them looking nice. Talk about a crummy job, if I never paint a shed again I'll be fine with that!

There is only one thing missing from the shed. However I am the only person who thinks something is missing. I asked for a cupola on the top of the shed. I just wanted a simple one and just for decorative purposes, white sides with a red roof. Jason and my Dad think it looks perfectly fine without it, and it does. I just think it would look nicer with one. What do you think? Everyone else thinks the shed looks fine and it would be a waste of money that could be put towards our (endless) other projects.

The answer is it is scary how many pictures we managed to take of one stupid shed! Jason took detailed pictures of every bit of construction of this shed. We have pictures of the joists, pictures of roof from the inside, pictures of everything. We need a life.

You can't really see them but this is Alex and B-Rad kinda sorta hanging out in a shed. They're combining the best of both worlds and using the trees and the shed. This shed doesn't have a ridge vent.

Nice shed. I vote for the cupola, even if only for decorative purposes. Also, are the kick walls going to be filled in? I'd be concerned about a horse kicking through the metal or getting a leg caught in the boards. I'm paranoid that way....
Great looking shed! None of my horses will drink from the hose, although we used to have one that loved to.
The only thing we didn't like was the open kick wall and yes, it will be filled in.
I vote no cupola. I like the view with the shed, and the cupola would draw more attention to the cupola instead of the overall pretty picture. Like a well dressed woman, the whole picture looks beatiful, if she had on a distracting piece of jewlery it would detract from the pretty picture. You can always add one later if you feel strongly about it. The barn... that will have to have a cupola. I love the shed, you are not crazy to take a million photos, it's great!

I agree with the first comment on the kick walls. We put them in ours after we had a colicky mare get cast and put her leg through. Of all the dumb places!
Ok, am I the only one who doesn't know what a cupola is? If it's a cupholder for your latte, do it! Otherwise, I haven't a clue ;)

Just googled it - I didn't know that's what those things were called. I think it would be nice looking but I like practical things, so I feel that unless it has a useful function it's not worth it. Boring, I know.

Not too many pictures, your farm is lovely. If I can't care for my guy (a big fan of hose drinking) in his retirement, which hopefully is far, far away, I want him to come to Tennessee.
