On and Off

The rain that I bemoaned in our last post came and went. The front dumped another two inches of rain on us Tuesday night while simultaneously pushing the temperature down from about 55 degrees at 5am to somewhere in the high 30s by the end of the day. Jason and I went around and sheeted/blanketed everybody to prepare for the dropping temperatures mixed with the lingering rain that stubbornly hung around all day yesterday. We took a few of the blankets/sheets off today and tomorrow morning we'll be taking the rest of them off.

I keep telling myself that we are getting very close to reaching the end of the put them all on/take them all off blanketing dance. We aren't finished with the on/off blanketing routine yet, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The daffodils bloomed last week which has to mean that the blankets will be gone for a good in a few weeks.

Glad you didn't end up swimming!
A couple of our tough guys have been going without blankets since a warm spell two weeks ago, and my mares all grew up in this weather, so they've been naked all winter. But the two softies from the west side of the mountains, and the oldest coot, plus the neuro-compromised mare all get their blankies on at night for a little bit longer--at least 'til nighttime lows stay above freezing.
But we're sn*w free, and I drug my pastures today. Plus rode a horse! Spring is on the way!
